Children’s & Nursery Ministries
Jesus called for the disciples to allow the children to come unto Him. We see our children as a
precious treasure and their education in the ways of God as a great responsibility and privilege. Therefore, Oakwood is committed to offering our children the opportunity to know and grow in our Lord. We have children’s Sunday School, Children’s Church during the morning services, discipleship on Sunday nights, and AWANA on Wednesdays. In addition, we have activities, socials, and Vacation Bible School for the kids each Summer. Help us reach, teach, and love our kids to Christ.
Student Life Youth Ministries
We realize that the pressures of life in this society are the most difficult on our teenagers. In trying to live for Christ and reach their friends, they encounter the pressures of sin and temptation while trying to find their place in their family, their school, and the kingdom. Because we recognize the difficulty of this age, our student ministry is open to all members (grades 7-12). Student Life offers Sunday School, discipleship, Wednesday night events, camps, retreats, socials and service projects. In Student Life, we want our youth to grow in their knowledge of the Lord and in their love for the church, as they find their place in the kingdom, realizing their worth before God. Get involved in the Student Life as an event sponsor, teacher, or event host and experience the blessing of shaping the next generation of the church’s leaders, givers, and servers!
Young Adult Ministries
Our Young Adults are those members (ages 19-29). We realize that in this time of life our young adults are continuing education, establishing careers, and starting families. These significant changes create unique obstacles to faith in Christ and active participation in church life. Therefore, we seek to encourage our young adults in their spiritual walk by offering Sunday School classes, social events, and our new Wednesday night Berean Ministry starting June 7th just for young adults. Most importantly, we are seeking to connect this group into the broader ministries and activities of the church as they transition from youth into adulthood.
Men’s Ministries
While we currently offer the ministry program Baptist Men on Mission, a service project oriented group for men, Oakwood is currently in the process of developing a comprehensive Men’s Ministry to strengthen the fellowship and maturity of the men of our church. God is at work building programs and raising up leaders to lead our men in fulfilling the biblical mandate of being strong servants of God and Godly leaders of our households and church body.
Women’s Ministries
While we currently offer the ministry program Women of Faith, a monthly bible-study and fellowship, Oakwood is currently in the process of developing a comprehensive Women’s Ministry to strengthen the fellowship and maturity of the women of our church. God is at work building programs and raising up leaders to lead our women in fulfilling the biblical mandate of being strong servants of God and Godly examples in our households and in the church body.
Senior Adults Ministries (55+)
While we currently offer the ministry program B.A.L.L. Club, a monthly fellowship for seniors, Oakwood is currently in the process of developing a comprehensive Senior Adults Ministry to strengthen the fellowship and maturity of the seniors of our church. God is at work building programs and raising up leaders to lead our seniors in fulfilling the biblical mandate of being strong servants of God and Godly examples in our church body.
Missions & Evangelism Committees
Both local, domestic, and international missions are important to Oakwood. Therefore, our Missions and Evangelism Committees seeks to promote and provide opportunities for our members to serve in these areas, reaching the world for Christ. The Missions Committee serves meals at a local mission (Set-Free) and is planning both domestic and international mission trips. This committee is responsible for promoting the Lottie Moon Christmas and Annie Armstrong Easter offerings that directly support the International Mission Board and the North American Mission Board respectively.
Our Evangelism Committee handles our local outreach through G.R.O.W. GROW stands for God Rewards Our Work and serves as our outreach and visitation strategy through organizing our members into outreach teams, one team meeting each week of the month.
Recreation Committee
As the family of God we see fellowship opportunities in every aspect of life. Therefore, we work together and also play together. Our Recreation Committee seeks to plan and promote sporting activities to encourage members and guests to grow in relationships with each other. Among these activities are; bowling, walking, volleyball, softball, basketball, and even flag football.
Lost and Found Ministry
We see the local church as the connecting point for all peoples to come and connect to each other through their relationship with Christ. To this end, we are pleased to have the Lost and Found Ministry at Oakwood Baptist Church. Lost and Found is our ministry to physically and mentally challenged members, allowing them to experience Sunday School and Worship Service on a weekly basis. These precious members are a great part of the church and a true blessing to all who work with them.
Conclusion
These are just some of the ways that our members are ministering to one another and to the community around us. To learn more about any ministry, please contact the church office so that they may put you in touch with the ministry contact as listed above.
